Section I — 90 min
- 60 MCQs 50%
- Stimulus-based sets of 4–5 questions
- ~1.5 min per question
- No penalty for guessing — answer ALL
Section II — 90 min
- 2 Long FRQs (~8–10 pts each) 25%
- 4 Short FRQs (~4 pts each) 25%

- One always: data/graph analysis
Science Practices
- SP1: Explain a biological concept
- SP2: Use visual representations
- SP3: Question & methods
- SP4: Data representation & analysis
- SP5: Statistics & probability
- SP6: Mathematical calculations
4 Big Ideas
- EVO — Evolution drives diversity
- ENE — Energy flows; matter cycles
- IST — Information flows in systems
- SYI — Systems interact at all levels
⚡ Top 10 Exam Strategies
- MCQ: Read the stimulus first — identify data type (graph/table/diagram) before reading the question.
- Eliminate: "Always/never" answers are almost always wrong. Pick the most complete, accurate option.
- Don't confuse correlation with causation in data questions — the AP exam loves this trap.
- FRQ: Read ALL parts before writing. Plan so you don't repeat yourself or miss a sub-part.
- Define every term you use. Write "enzyme (a biological catalyst)" not just "enzyme."
- "Describe" = WHAT. "Explain" = HOW and WHY (mechanism). These earn different points.
- Hardy-Weinberg: memorize p+q=1 AND p²+2pq+q²=1. Know what each symbol represents. Show all work.
- Chi-square: χ²=Σ[(O−E)²/E]. df = categories − 1. p < 0.05 = significant, reject null.
- Experimental design FRQ: state IV, DV, control group, controlled variables, and measurement method.
- Know exactly where ATP, NADH, FADH₂ are produced: glycolysis, Krebs cycle, ETC.
